backup to drive with no letter on disk image 7 server

is their a way ( like windows backup ) to backup to an external usb drive that does not have a drive letter ?
the drive is their in computer management but has no letter until i go in and give it one ( the backup then works )
but is their a way to backup to it without doing this every day ( server 2008 standard ) i cannot fix the drive letter issue on the server.

diskimage server 7 7.1.93 server 2008 standard
external usb 2.0 500gb drivers monday to friday x5

If you want to select a drive without a drive letter as target, you can specify the real device name or the unique volume name. For example:

\Device\HarddiskVolume4
or \\?\Volume{beb5b5db-56f2-427d-87f7-6f1d88497e8b}

The path would look like in this case:

\Device\HarddiskVolume4\folder\file
or \\?\Volume{beb5b5db-56f2-427d-87f7-6f1d88497e8b}\folder\file

do i enter this manually in the xml file or in the path of the program ?
also when i change drive each day is this going to work ?

Hi superfantastic,

You can change it in the XML file or simply change in the dialog box in which you specify the Image file destination. A mounted device should have the same device name each System startup. The only exception would be a removable device such an USB or FireWire device. You should control these devices as target in the PlugIn - mechanism in OODI 8.

cannot get to work, hdd sentinal and computer management both say that the usb drive is always disk 1 with the main hard disk c:\ as disk 0

i have set o&o to the above path in the storage path section of image in edit job and when i run the backup it fails with error
internal error

i am backing up to external usb drives and they are always drive 1 when i plug in

Hi superfantastic,

Please describe me first what you want to do exactly. If you want to perform a backup automatically when the USB drive is connected, and the image file to be placed to the USB drive, you should select the "plugged in" in the Startup event. In the bottom control then select your USB drive. In the tab image, select the device connection path ($TEMPL:(PlugInDevice)).
If you now save the task, then always at the connection of the USB drive an image is created on this USB drive.
